As I have previously stated, I’m a couponer. I make no apologies for handing a stack of coupons over to the checkout person instead of a wad of cash to pay for my items. God has used coupons to provide for our family and in the process I’ve had opportunities to teach others the joys of couponing. It has also allowed our family to bless others that might not have everyday necessitates such as soap or cleaning supplies. There really is no greater joy than giving to others and being able to give liberally is a blessing to us as well.
There is a downside to couponing though…I normally shop only at Wal-Greens or Wal-Mart with my coupons. I have found that my local stores have a pretty liberal policy concerning coupons but sadly, my local Wal-Greens has changed their liberal policy to a very strict one. This change came at an unconvenient time for me, the day before my big shopping trip. Today was going to be a glorious day. My coupon buddy and I had today planned. We were going to get up early, hit Wal-Greens, head to Wal-Mart and then tackle the after Christmas sales at Hobby Lobby. We were going to squeeze lunch in there as well (making our lunch taste better with a general helping of coupons, of course.) Well, let’s just say it didn’t happen that way. Off we went to Wal-Greens. We were extremely delighted as we went to the back of the store and they had everything we needed in stock. This hardly ever happens at our store. You see, our store has a very liberal policy and as a result they are usually out of stock on the things we need to buy with our coupons. As were gleefully filled our carts along comes one our favorite managers in the store and with a frown and down-trodden look informs us that they can no longer “honor our BOGO coupons.” To a couponer, this is like telling a child they can no longer have candy. It’s earth-shattering devastation for a couponer. She then informs us that the policy changed just yesterday. We almost shed a tear as we had originally planed our shopping extravaganza for yesterday. We begin placing are products back on the shelf, walk around the store for a few minutes, find a clearance buy that allowed us to use some of our coupons but we didn’t get what we went for. While checking out I have the bright idea to call the neighboring city’s Wal-Greens and our day got a bit brighter as they tell me that they are still honoring the BOGO coupons but they don’t know for how long…POP…yep, that was my couponer’s bubble popping for the second time today.Off we went to Wal-Mart for some price matching and we left with full bags. It made up for the lack luster day at Wal-Greens but, it still wasn’t the glorious day we had planned.
Overall, it was a good day. I made off with 5 toothbrushes, 5 tubes of toothpaste, 3 packs of razors, 4 bottles of bodywash, 3 bottles of men’s body spray, 4 tubes of men’s deodorant, and 2 bottles of hand soap. I’m grateful for the things I got today for the grand price of $5.31 and I hope that my local Wal-Greens reconsiders their coupon policy.
